The Populations Future in the Homeless Shelter Assignment - 1
The Populations Future in the Homeless Shelter - Assignment Example This paper illustrates that experiences of the subpopulation, which identify barriers to change in the peopleââ¬â¢s lifestyle, explain Declanââ¬â¢s position that the group of people has a limited chance of escaping homelessness. Financial barriers are one reason because while people of the low economic class are homeless, as malnutrition among the subpopulation suggests, health complications such as communicable diseases and chronic diseases further burden members of the subpopulation and they have to spend their limited earnings on healthcare. Drug abuse, another major challenge that the subpopulation faces, also constrains the peopleââ¬â¢s financial stability and therefore limit their chances of affording shelter. Members of the subpopulation also report cases of mental illness, a condition that reduces a personââ¬â¢s rationale to the extent of not perceiving benefits of living in a home. Declan, therefore, knows that the population has a limited chance of escaping home lessness because of the characteristics of the population that sustain the homelessness condition. Depression disorder is the mood disorder to which Declan should pay particular attention when assessing his clients because of the relatively high significance of the disorder among the subpopulation, relative to other disorders. Maurer and Smith identify the significance of the disorder among homeless people, report an incidence rate of about 50 percent and recommend that care personnel that works with the subpopulation should occasionally assess for depression. Empirical data on mood disorders also identifies relative significance of depression disorder over other mood disorder. A study by Hodgson, Katherine, Shelton, Marianne, Bree, and Los also identifies the significance of depression as a mood disorder. While considering the prevalence of three mood disorders, the authors only identify the prevalence of depressive disorder over a weekââ¬â¢s interval with zero percent prevalenc e rate for dysthymia and bipolar I-II disorder.

Koalas Essay Example for Free
Koalas Essay Obamacare, or what is formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is federal legislation that was signed into law on March 23, 2010 by present Barak Obama. The act aims to reform national healthcare and give more people than before access to affordable healthcare. The overall goal of the act is to cover all persons regardless of their conditions or other factors. The passing of Obamacare has led to much conflict in the government and throughout the nation. In particular, recently the act has been the root of heated disagreements and government unrest among the Democrats and Republicans. Obamacare, or the concept of a nation or statewide healthcare program, is not the first of its kind. The idea dates as far back as 1989 when it was proposed to Congress. Bill and Hillary Clinton had a similar objective in the 1990ââ¬â¢s and Mitt Romney made similar reforms in 2006 while the governor of Massachusetts. The Clintonââ¬â¢s health care plan was similar to Obamaââ¬â¢s in that they were national campaigns to provide universal healthcare. Also similar was the amount of controversy both drew up in the House as well as with the American people. The newly imposed ACA has many areas in which it aims to help those who cannot afford healthcare as well as better the healthcare system in the country as a whole. The main point of Obamacare is guaranteed issue of healthcare to all people and prohibits the denial of healthcare based on prior conditions. One benefit of Obamacare is allowing children to stay on their parentsââ¬â¢ healthcare plan until age 26. Along with guaranteed coverage, Obamacare will institute an exchange so individuals can compare prices of private insurances and purchase insurance. It is estimated that over 15 million men and women will be eligible for purchase of healthcare. Families that fall within a certain distance to the poverty line will be compensated for choosing a policy using this exchange. This is an incentive for people to utilize this plan and purchase healthcare. On the business side of things, Obamacare also pushes towards the nationalizing of healthcare. There are penalties for businesses who employ over 5o employees and do not provide healthcare. Overall there are several efforts made in many areas of the country to push for healthcare for everyone in the United States. There are many areas in which families and individuals can benefit from the Affordable Care Act. According to ObamacareFacts, Americans making less than $45,960 or families making under $94,200 are eligible for free or low-cost insurance. Also, as a result ofà Obamacare 24 million people will be exempt from the Individual Mandate which requires the purchase of health insurance. It is noted that anyone who feels they cannot afford healthcare will be covered under Obamacare and granted low-cost or free insurance. Dating back to 2008 the Democrats and Republicans had been on different sides of the national healthcare debate. The senate was close to passing the bill to reform healthcare in 2009. The Democrats needed 60 votes to pass, but due to a series of events leading to some members not supporting the bill or not voting, the act was not passed. After further delegation, what previously was a disagreement of terms and conditions had Republicans and Democrats in stark opposition to one another. All Democrats were strong supports of the bill and Republicans adamantly opposed. Now, it is clear the side the Democrats take on the Affordable Care Act. The real question is, why do Republicans oppose what appears to be such a proactive and achievable goal? The topic is an intriguing one, and one that does not have one definite answer. The Republicans themselves say nothing more than that Obamacare will destroy the country. Such a powerful accusation yet no real explanation or further comments lead only to more questions than answers on their true position. There are arguments that say the ACA is detrimental to the economy, and that businesses cannot afford to spend any more money on healthcare. Another claim was that Obamacare was unconstitutional, although the Supreme Court overruled this idea. Sources outside the Republican Party see the Republicansââ¬â¢ dislike of Obamacare solely because they dislike Obama himself. They appear to be against Obamacare simply just to be again st Obama. Another theory is the tax increases that would come along with Obamacare. One New York Times article highlights the ââ¬Å"real reasonâ⬠as to why Republicans are opposed to the Affordable Care Act. Eduardo Porter claims that Republicans are actually afraid that the American people will like Obamacare. They do not want the US population to realize that it will not actually destroy the economy and it can actually improve the lives of many people, many Republicans to be more specific. They are fearful of the positive impacts it could have on supporters of the Republican Party. One common problem many Americans admit to having with Obamacare. The nickname Obamacare is a point many people cannot get past, and when asked if they support it or not many say they do not. But the overwhelming majority of Americans agree with the actual termsà of the ACA and the steps it takes to better healthcare in the US. It could be that the simple concept of a nickname could be the main problem people have with an overall positive proposal. Although Obamacare itself has been spread out to institute new laws and regulations over the next 5-10 years, the effects of some of the early plans have already been present. ACA has already impacted the number of insured Americans and that amount is expected to continue to rise. Another change that has already been made is regarding dropping policy holders. No longer are insurance firms allowed to drop policy holders due to sickness or injury. Perhaps the most noticed and controversial part to date is the increase in healthcare costs and its effects on the national budget. The national debt limit has been a very sensitive topic and the affect Obamacare will have on it is not helping the problem. It needs to be determine the lengths necessary to go in order to make healthcare nationally available yet not impact the national debt in a way as to cause economic unrest. With a plan that has stirred up so much unrest in its early days, the future does not bode well for Obamacare. Johnathan Oberlander of the New England Journal of Medicine argues that many of the problems that the Affordable care act faces today will not be present once the act is more establis hed in several years. Once the disagreements on the actual passing of the bill fade, in come the disputes about what the act does and does not do and the boundaries of the laws. ââ¬Å"Perhaps the most difficult long-term challenge facing Obamacare is cost controlâ⬠(Oberlander, New England Journal of Medicine). Cost control is a serious issue that is seen to be a point of major contention in the future due to the lack of limits on spending. Another negative aspect of Obamacare is the affect it will have on our country in the global scheme of things. The spending on healthcare in the United States makes up 35% of the national spending, a whopping $1.38 trillion (Boot, Wall Street Journal). Much different than a time when the majority of spending was allocated to war or national security, many Americans now worry about the extent of healthcare costs in relation to other costs. Globally we are seen as a significant power, but with so much of our money dedicated to healthcare people are concerned for th e safety and protection of our nation. Along with the healthcare protection of Obamacare comes the increase in government spending, and with that comes the alarming reality of less and less spending on our nationalà security. In my opinion Obamacare is a very beneficial planned instituted by the government that receives an unnecessary and unfair amount of criticism. The Kaiser Health Tracker poll asked Americans whether or not they supported Obamacare and the majority were against it. However, the poll also showed that 88% were in support of tax credits, 76% in favor of expanding the coverage age of children to 26, and 71% and 66% in favor of expanding Medicaid and banning exclusions for preexisting conditions respectively. This shows that people are unfairly judging Obamacare, whether that be because of the nickname given to it or because it is President Obamaââ¬â¢s plan. I feel that the overall objective of the plan is one that should not be so vehemently disputed and put down by Americans and other political parties. The goal of achieving a nationally supported healthcare is a very positive one that should be supported by anyone who is in favor of the well-being of our country.

Battle of Gen X and Gen Y Essay -- essays research papers
The Battle of Gen X and Gen Y Thereà ¡Ã ¦s no doubt about it, the newest diversity issue in the workplace is age diversity. Many organizations have finally figured out how to recruit young talent only to watch them drive down a collision course with seasoned employees over issues like work ethic, respect for authority, dress code and every work arrangement imaginable. And they're not sure what to do about it. à à à à à With this paper, I decided to take this concept because of the people that I have to work with on a continual basis. They are usually people from the Generation X trying to communicate with Generation Y. Just the other day I heard from someone I am working with, à ¡Ã §Those god d* young kids donà ¡Ã ¦t want to work. Then they have to ask à ¡Ã ¥Why do I have to learn this anyways?à ¡Ã ¦Ã ¡Ã ¨ I just sit back, smile, and think to myself there has to be an easier way in getting the information highway open to people no matter what the age. Good communication skills are essential to get any message across and there are many times our verbal and written messages are not received and interpreted as intended. That is why I chose to look at the Generations of X and Y. I first had to define what a generation is. A generation, loosely defined, is a group of people who can be demographically identified by biological trends and have shared experiences (Stephens Generation X Site, 2004). I did a little research first on the Generation Y babies (1980-1994). These young adults are in a league all their own. This generation has a hopeful outlook, a determined work ethic, and gets turned off by promiscuity (Mcai-mn.org, 2004). This generation also likes a direct communication approach. No surprise, they get along well with the over sixty generation. They have a global perspective, and this may be due to the pace of technological change in the last twenty years that promotes communication without barriers. When you look at this group closer, they are able to adapt rapidly, innovate constantly, accept others easily and rebound quickly. They have the time, tools, and the talent to create a better world and better results. Now those Generation Xà ¡Ã ¦s have there own fond little quirks too! They were brought up on television, Atari 2600s and personal computers. They are the generation that was raised in the 1970s and 1980s, and saw this country undergo a selfish... ... 30 years of age. Considering that the average starting salary of a college graduate in 2000 hovered around $38,000, while more and more organizations are figuring out ways to flex schedules, work locations, and job descriptions, Gen Yers may be more realistic than those who scoff at their ambition. I havenà ¡Ã ¦t found out yet if it has worked or not. I am sure hoping it is because when researching this topic it brought me to my own realizations on what I expect. I need to place more value on asking people what they expect instead of placing my own biases on what I think they want. Reference Page Business Week Online Official Website. Critical Thinking Part
Application and Critical Thinking Most crime labs In the U. S. Are funded & operated by the gobo and provide services free to police and prosecutors. Great Britain uses private labs that charge a fee for services and keeps any profits they make. What are some potential strengths and weaknesses of each system? One potential strength for the U. S. For being funded and operated by the gobo and providing free services for the police and prosecutors Is that they do not have to worry about funds. The police and/or prosecutors can approach the crime labs they deed and ask for which ever tests they need to be performed and get them done, how ever many times. A potential weakness of this system could be that the information could be skewed being that it is run by one particular agency, another weakness is that the gobo isn't making any money like the agencies in Great Britain. In Great Britain, they are getting paid to do a Job, they would want to do the Job well and In a timely manner. In the U. S. , they not getting paid, so why would they rush to get It done? They can tea their time solving things or getting the tests completed. On the aside, the police and prosecutors have access to, free of charge, all of the services the U. S. Crime labs provide: FBI, DEAD, TAFT, US Postal lab, to name a few. A strength for Great Britain using private labs is that it's not being interfered with by the government, It was paid to do a job, it will get the Job done.On the down side, this type of system expects to be paid, so if a small area can not pay for the types of help they are In need of, the crime lab will not be able to provide help with the crime investigation. 2. Police investigating an apparent suicide collect the following items at the scene: a tote purportedly written by the victim, a revolver bearing very faint finger prints and traces of skin and blood under the victim's fingernails. What units of the crime laboratory will examine each piece of evidence? The unit that wou ld examine the note would be the Document Examination Unit. This unit studies the authenticity of handwriting and typewriting on the documents in question. The revolver will be examined by the Firearms Unit as they are able to detect residue from firearms, discharged bullets, shotgun shells, cartridge cases, and other types of ammunitions. They examine all firearms and are able to approximate he distance the weapon was fired from the target. The revolver will also also be examined by the Latent Fingerprint Unit because it has a very faint fingerprint on it.The Biology unit will examine the traces of blood and skin found under the victim's fingernails. This unit is staffed with many biochemists and biologists that are trained to perform DNA profiling on body fluids, dried bloodstains as well as skin. Crime scene instead of a patrol officer or detective. One of the advantages of having an evidence collection unit process a crime scene over a patrol officer or a detective is that the e vidence collection unit have properly rained staff technicians on the ready 24 hours a day to arrive at a crime scene to collect evidence.Another advantage is that these technicians are trained recognize and to collect/gather important physical evidence at the crime scene where as a detective or a patrol office may not have such a keen eye for such things. A third advantage for having evidence collection units process a crime scene is that the technicians are trained to work with all the special lab equipment in order to help process the evidence. This helps them to become experts in their field as they are exposed to the equipment 24 hours a day, having all the supplies and tools for proper evidence collection and packaging which allows for future examination. . What legal issue was raised on appeal by the defense in Carl Spooling's Florida murder trial? What court ruling is most relevant to the decision to reject the appeal? Explain. The legal issue that was raised while on appeal was that could the defendant be convicted of murder based on a series of tests designed specifically for this one case because the tests had not yet ââ¬Å"gained general acceptanceâ⬠across the toxicology profession. The court believed that these tests, though they are new, are important to the case and are admissible and doesn't make the crime of murder any less of a crime.Rule 702 is most relevant, in this case, to the decision to reject the appeal because Rule 702 deals with the ââ¬Å"admissibility of expert testimony. â⬠The testimony from qualified experts (the witness); by skills, training, knowledge, experience, or education, is based on gathered data and/or sufficient facts. The testimony must be produced from methods and principles of reliability, and finally, the witness must use and apply the methods and principles reliably to facts of said case.

Safeguarding the welfare of children
Parents with less money may also find it hard to afford the right food or not a lot of food which some children end up going to school with no breakfast this may lead to poor diet and health. B. Educated parents. If a child is brought up with well-educated parents this can take over a child's life this can have a big impact on their social life as the parents may have the child taking a lot of extra lessons for example piano lessons or dance lessons pushing them to be the best they may not realize that the child is emotionally and physically drained but not wanting to disappoint the child carries on.The child may feel left out in the fact that their friends are out enjoying life and having fun and they are missing out on heir childhood. The child may not be as intelligent as their parents and finding it hard or stressful that they are struggling with work because they don't want to fail their parents. A child with less educated parents may be struggling with school work or home work as their parents can't help them with studying they may also not care about the child's education because they may not have been brought up to care by their parents.C. Lone parent. A single working parent has less time for their child especially if they are siblings it ill be hard for them to give equal time to all children. This may affect the child's behavior as they may see this as an opportunity to take advantage of the situation they may bunk off school or start hanging around with the wrong crowd or Cumming in late. Emotionally this may leave them feeling left out and doing bad things such as thieving thinking this is the only way they can get your attention. They could start to fall behind at school because their parents aren't involved enough and not giving them the encouragement they need. The child may have also had to grow up quicker asking their own tea maybe dropping off and picking up siblings why the parent is at work meaning they don't have a social life because their caring for their brothers or sisters. The positive side to a working parent is that the child's education may be better like being in a private school, also the child more than likely doesn't go with out when it comes to new things for example clothes, laptop etc.A single parent on benefits may have all the time in the world for their children, giving the child less opportunity to bunk off school or fall behind with work but the child may be less ordinate when it comes to clothes and gadgets which may lead to the child being bullied and not fitting in socially with their peers this may lead to the child falling behind on work as they can't concentrate feeling like they don't want to be in school where these bullies are. B) Health A. Over weight.A child over weight through genetics not self-inflicted may struggle with day to day tasks such as struggling to get there selves dressed or even the simple task of going up and down stairs or doing pee at school. This may affect them emotio nally because asks are more difficult to do leaving them to feel self-conscious and upset, this may cause bullying affecting their social life as they may find it hard to go swimming or bike riding leaving them with not many friends. Their behavior may be that they are very quiet and sit away from everyone or they may act out and become the bully so they don't get picked on.Their parents may be supportive or they could be pushy towards the child to lose weight making the child feel like they have no one to turn to. B. Young career. A child looking after a parent may look strong on the outside but may feel very tired ND fragile on the inside struggling to cope but putting the brave face on as they love their parent and feels this is their duty. Their education may be falling behind as they are missing days off school or struggling to focus maybe falling asleep in class.Emotionally they maybe blank on the outside and not letting anyone in , but inside all they want is a brake to be a child with friends, socially they probably don't have many friends due to the fact that their missing school and when they are at home they can't go out because their caring for their parent. They may get bullied because they not play out with the other children and they pick up on the fact that the child is different to them affecting the child's behavior they may act out in frustration to release stress or Just shut themselves off from others.C. A child with disability. A child with a physical disability such as not being able to move will have all the emotion and intellect on how they feel and think but won't be able to show them physically. They will more than likely be at a special need school which will have group activities and learning methods tailored to their needs but they can't do every says task such as getting dressed or feeding themselves. This will be emotionally frustrating for the child knowing what they want to do in their head but can't act it out physically.Soci ally they may have special groups they can go to but they won't be able to go out and do every day things like other children. This may leave them to act out by shouting and showing their angry through facial expressions. A child with a mental disability might not understand how to behave if their withdrawn and don't communicate with family or friends. Or they act out with anger shouting and being hysterical towards others. Intellectually they may struggle to learn anything as they don't have the ability or find it hard to remember or focus. They will also more than likely go to a special need school which they will have learning tailored to their needs; they will be able to move around and play but may not understand the concept of games and group activities. Socially they may find it hard to play or communicate with others leaving it hard to have many friends. C) Environment. A. Deprived. A deprived area may have fewer amenities such as Just a corner shop. They may not have anythin g for children to burn some physical energy off for example a park, library or swimming facilities. This will affect the social behavior in this area such as vandalism, graffiti and theft. In deprived areas you may find that are different ethnic and religious families which may mean feuds or language barriers. Not having a library or other amenities may affect their intellect as they don't have the tools there to help them learn. B. Peer. As a child straight away you find that they make friends and become a group or gang hose friends can be from school or their estate they live on it can also depend on the ethnic origin or religion.Being with certain friends may lead the child to truant or drink and take drugs or it may come from their parents if they have friends round all the time drinking etc. Depending on your family or friends you may fall behind in work if they aren't committed to the work or committed to helping you with the study. C. Community. If a community doesn't have the right amenities for example a corner shop they may struggle to get groceries and bits if they can't afford to travel far, which may affect heir health or diet. Also if the community don't have a library with the computers or community centre the community would suffer because they wouldn't have the help to study and better their selves for a Job not many families have internet so these are a great help also this could affect their behavior and their intellect as they have nowhere to go to study or to take themselves away from gang culture etc. Not having a park or a swimming baths may affect their social behavior as there is nowhere for the children to go to hang out and play.

Pablo Picasso Essays - Pablo Picasso, Art Movements, Modern Art
Pablo Picasso Essays - Pablo Picasso, Art Movements, Modern Art Pablo Picasso Pablo Picasso Picasso, Pablo Ruiz y (1881-1973), Spanish painter and sculptor, is considered one of the greatest artist of the 20th century. He was a inventor of forms, innovator of styles and techniques, a master of various media, and one of the most prolific artists in history. He created more than 20,000 works. Training and Early Work Picasso was Born in Mlaga on October 25, 1881, he was the son of Jos Ruiz Blasco, an art teacher, and Mara Picasso y Lopez. Until 1898 he always used his father's name, Ruiz, and his mother's maiden name, Picasso, to sign his pictures. After about 1901 he dropped Ruiz and used his mother's maiden name to sign his pictures. At the age of 10 he made his first paintings, and at 15 he performed brilliantly on the entrance examinations to Barcelona's School of Fine Arts. His large academic canvas Science and Charity (1897, Picasso Museum, Barcelona), depicting a doctor, a nun, and a child at a sick woman's bedside, won a gold medal. Blue Period Between 1900 and 1902, Picasso made three trips to Paris, finally settling there in 1904. He found the city's bohemian street life fascinating, and his pictures of people in dance halls and cafs show how he learned the postimpressionism of the French painter Paul Gauguin and the symbolist painters called the Nabis. The themes of the French painters Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, as well as the style of the latter, exerted the strongest influence. Picasso's Blue Room (1901, Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.) reflects the work of both these painters and, at the same time, shows his evolution toward the Blue Period, so called because various shades of blue dominated his work for the next few years. Expressing human misery, the paintings portray blind figures, beggars, alcoholics, and prostitutes, their somewhat elongated bodies reminiscent of works by the Spanish artist El Greco. Rose Period Shortly after settling in Paris in a shabby building known as the Bateau-Lavoir (laundry barge, which it resembled), Picasso met Fernande Olivier, the first of many companions to influence the theme, style, and mood of his work. With this happy relationship, Picasso changed his palette to pinks and reds; the years 1904 and 1905 are thus called the Rose Period. Many of his subjects were drawn from the circus, which he visited several times a week; one such painting is Family of Saltimbanques (1905, National Gallery, Washington, D.C.). In the figure of the harlequin, Picasso represented his alter ego, a practice he repeated in later works as well. Dating from his first decade in Paris are friendships with the poet Max Jacob, the writer Guillaume Apollinaire, the art dealers Ambroise Vollard and Daniel Henry Kahnweiler, and the American expatriate writers Gertrude Stein and her brother Leo, who were his first important patrons; Picasso did portraits of them all. Protocubism In the summer of 1906, during Picasso's stay in Gsol, Spain, his work entered a new phase, marked by the influence of Greek, Iberian, and African art. His celebrated portrait of Gertrude Stein (1905-1906, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City) reveals a masklike treatment of her face. The key work of this early period, however, is Les demoiselles d'Avignon (1907, Museum of Modern Art, New York City), so radical in styleits picture surface resembling fractured glassthat it was not even understood by contemporary avant-garde painters and critics. Destroyed were spatial depth and the ideal form of the female nude, which Picasso restructured into harsh, angular planes. CubismAnalytic and Synthetic Inspired by the volumetric treatment of form by the French postimpressionist artist Paul Czanne, Picasso and the French artist Georges Braque painted landscapes in 1908 in a style later described by a critic as being made of little cubes, thus leading to the term cubism. Some of their paintings are so similar that it is difficult to tell them apart. Working together between 1908 and 1911, they were concerned with breaking down and analyzing form, and together they developed the first phase of cubism, known as analytic cubism. Monochromatic color schemes were favored in their depictions of radically fragmented motifs, whose several sides were shown simultaneously. Picasso's favorite subjects were musical instruments, still-life objects, and his friends; one famous

Free Essays on Separatins Of Our Country
Separations of our Country These articles, to me, discuss the problems of slavery and war in the early 1860â⬠s. Slavery and war were major issues in these days that caused many problems. After reading both the Gettysburg Address and the Letter to His Son that dealt with the feelings on our world years ago fro, Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee, I feel that their point of views are both similar and yet much different, in dealing with these two topics. Abraham Lincoln, our American President at the time wrote The Gettysburg Address. The address helped people to realize what was happening to our country. Lincolnââ¬â¢s speech was very powerful, honorable, and sympathetic at the same time. Lincoln says, ââ¬Å"It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus for so nobly advancedâ⬠(Adventures in Literature pg. 367). He spoke so simply but was still able to set his feelings on freedom across. Robert E. Lee on the other hand, wrote a Letter to His Son, which discussed his views on how he felt with this separation within are nation. Lee is concerned with freedom in the country as a whole but more in his home state of Virginia. For example at the end of his letter, he says ââ¬Å"if the union is dissolved, and the government disrupted, I shall return to my native state and shine the miseries of my people, and save in defense, will draw my sword on noneâ⬠(Adventures in Literature pg. 370). In my opinion, Leeââ¬â¢s letter was not as much concerned with the country as a whole. In conclusion The Gettysburg Address and the Letter to His Son are very much alike. In each article, both Lincoln and Lee are against this separation between union and confederation. They both are very concerned with the issue and are fighting for a change.
